So, there's some issues with funding, and the projects I'm supposed to be working on. Until it's resolved, i'm just not ready to give work my usual 110% effort. And that means, posting lots of things on LJ, instead! YAY!

A while ago, [livejournal.com profile] raisincub showed me this video. It's totally brilliant.

Every once in a while i get my DJ thing on, and do some mixes, It's been a while since I finished some ( like.. uh... a couple years) but If you wanna hear them, I have them over at my old blog site.

JP in SD Podcasts

The dance mix (DanceFavs 2005) is very gay. So gay, in fact, that a straight woman friend of mine said she started to question her orientation. It's also an awesome mix for any kind of cardio or exercise. I listen to it when I'm on my treadmill. It keeps me walking for an hour without getting bored :-)

The other mix, "Another world", is a more groove / chillout kind of mix. track 11 of Another World is a piece I wrote.

I'm going to try to do another mix in the next month, so if you want to subscribe to the podcast, it will automatically download whenever I add another mix.

So, I've been thinking about things. lots of things, but mostly about changes. One of the things i'm thinking about is my name, and is it time for a change?

brief history:
In 3rd grade, I got the nickname "JP". I liked it, because it was a cool nickname, unlike the one my classmate had — "stinky pants." But I only used 'JP' at school.

Around 9th grade, I decided i was tired of being called "Jeff", and wanted to be called "Jeffrey", so I slowly started training family and firends to call me "Jeffrey".

in 2005 I started using "JP" again because of work. (See ‡ for the long version)

Now that so many changes are happening, and I'm starting to drop some old, bad, habits, I wonder if I should start using my full name again. Jeffrey is kinda stodgy, and a little snobbish. And although I can be a bit snobbish at times, I really don't mean it (usually)

But then, "Jeff" just seems like a down-to-earth kinda name for a guy.

So I ask you guys, the people that have known me for a while, and the people that I've just met. What name do you think suites me more? Is it time for me to just go back to being "Jeff" again?

And no. "Princess Persnickety" is not a valid response. So don't even try (i'm looking at YOU, [livejournal.com profile] raisincub !!)

[Poll #1115860]

footnotes:
It used to piss me off when I would introduce myself to someone as "Jeffrey", and that person would immediately call me "Jeff". I would think to myself " no, you ignorant fuck. that's not what I said!". Instead, I would just gently correct them, or else one of my friends would.

When I started the job I now have, in Jan of 2005, I went back to using "JP" because I'm sharing an office with another Jeff. And although I explained to my coworkers that my name is "Jeffrey", and that there should be no confusion as long as they called him "Jeff" and me "Jeffrey".... they just didn't understand. Seriously. I work with people who have multiple degrees, Masters and Ph.D.'s, and they can't even remember the difference between "Jeffrey" and "Jeff"??!?

After 2 weeks of reminding them, I just gave up and said " ok. forget it. Call me 'JP'. It's a nickname i've had for ages, and it's different enough that you shouldn't have any problem differentiating between Jeff and me"

almost 3 years later, I find out that those same people still refer to me as "Jeff" when I'm not around. It just boggles the mind.
