Quote from a chat conversation with a friend of mine today, in reference to the word "worship" and some born-again friends of ours.

Please discuss. All opinions are welcome.

I have to agree with that... I always find it ironic that what apparently separates us from all other things in creation is that we were given free will... but yet people will gladly give that gift up to blindly play "follow the spiritual leader." I would think that God would find that absolutely insulting... as would be cloistering ones self in order to thank God for all the wonderful things you aren't seeing and doing... because you're cloistered. What the hell kind of logic is that?? LOL

If someone hands you a gift of a 7-day cruise, it would be stupid to choose to pass it up and instead stay in your house and continue to write thank you letters to the person who gave it to you; just as it would be equally stupid to go on the cruise and let someone else dictate what you will be doing every single second while you're on the ship. You should accept the gift and use it to it's full potential as YOU see fit!

If the supreme deity is all loving... why would He/She/It want the beings It created to become adoring slaves (especially if It bestowed on us free will)? Once again, the logic just seems flawed. If It wanted mindless drones, It would have created them. I think it is right to give thanks to whatever/whoever you feel responsible for your life and everything in it, but to dedicate that life to blindly following what a book or a person says (and coercing/forcing others to do the same) just seems like a waste of life's full potential.
